I'm converting a pretty large multimodal dataset into BIDS and I've hit a scaling problem that I think is worth raising here. The dataset has a lot going on: EEG, EMG, ECG and EOG, optical motion capture, eye tracking, force plates, and a few behavioral/game streams, all recorded across many participants and sessions. Altogether it's several TB, and a big part of that size comes straight from the fact that BIDS makes me store every continuous non-EEG signal as plain text. The motion data is the worst case. Motion-BIDS requires _motion.tsv to be plain, uncompressed TSV (gzip isn't even allowed), so a single high-rate mocap run, a few hundred channels at a few hundred Hz, ends up around 10 GB, and it climbs into the hundreds of GB just for that one modality. Physio at least allows .tsv.gz, and gzip does help with size (roughly 3 to 6x), but the catch is that anything you want to process you have to decompress first, so at this scale you end up spending a huge amount of time just decompre
